As we shape behaviors, we have to fully understand and be able to apply behavior modification techniques. Two key components of behavior modification are extinction and spontaneous recover. Extinction refers to the diminishing of a conditioned response when the conditioned stimulus occurs repeatedly without the unconditioned stimulus. Spontaneous recovery is the reappearance, after a pause, of an extinguished conditioned response.
Provide an example of each of the key terms above. How could you increase the extinction rate of a behavior?
