The most common mood disorder is unipolar depression. The term unipolar differentiates disorders that involve only depression from those that involve both depression and manic episodes (bipolar disorders). Unipolar depression is similar to the normal “blues” but is much more severe in nature and magnitude of symptoms. Dysthymia is a chronic, long-lasting form of mild or moderate depression.
