We understand that who we are is the combination of our biological, psychological, social and spiritual selves. This is why building out a biopsychosocial-spiritual assessment can be a useful tool in many areas of social work practice. These assessments can be used in variety of contexts for a variety of applications. Essentially, their usefulness and value relies solely on the depth and breadth of information one includes in these assessments. Therefore, it is important to include as much accurate and relevant information as you can obtain. Maybe it goes without saying, but there will always be limits to what information is made available. However, the more information you have, the more you have to work with.
For this assignment, students will develop a comprehensive biopsychosocial-spiritual assessment on one of the three main characters, Alex, Kelby or Je’Meya, in the 2012 documentary entitled, “Bully.” This is a film that is widely available through various steaming services, such as Netflix, that largely traces the lives of these three kids and the bullying that they each experience on a daily basis.
Using the provided notes sheets to help guide and organize your information, students will write a comprehensive biopsychosocial-spiritual assessment about the character they have chosen to focus their attention on. These assessments should be 3-4 pages in length and should provide information as to that individual’s unique constellation of biological, psychological, sociological and spiritual factors that make them who they are. Please be sure to cover all four areas in your assessment. At the end of your assessment, once you have laid out all of the information, I would like for you to provide your best clinical assessment of that individual and his or her situation. This should be 2-3 paragraphs that describes what you feel to be the individual’s strengths and weaknesses, challenges and opportunities, and potential trajectory moving forward. This should be constructed in a narrative form biopsychosocial-spiritual assessment.
